How to Resize Images – Resize an Image Online

How to Resize Images on Your Computer

How many times have you wanted to post a image online and found out that it is too big? Or maybe you wanted to crop out part of the picture.  Here are a couple of ways to resize images.

You can use the “Paint” program on your computer to resize images. The program comes with Microsoft Windows and is usually found under your start button. I noticed in Windows 10 I had to use the search bar at the bottom of the “Start” menu. In the older Windows versions it is found in “Accessories”.  For Mac users I believe the “Paintbrush” program will resize images.

In “Paint” you’ll just need to upload an image from you computer files and click the “resize images” tab.  Then choose the size you need by percentage or pixels. Make sure you click the save button. I like to rename the file after I resize the images so I keep the original; I might want to do some more editing later.  After you resize images in Paint you can skew them horizontally or vertically.  Just play around and get creative.

Very informative post. I am using a lot of images in my posts and I always upload them as they are into WordPress. In WP I resize the images or crop them as I need. What do you recommend, to do it in WP or outsize of WP and why?

Hi Ruben, You can do it any way you like best; uploading to WP is a time-saver. I save so many images in my other hosting account and manipulate them in so many different ways that I choose to pop them through an editor first. Best wishes.

    Hi Joan –
I just accidentally bumped into your tutorial about resizing images.
I think this would be really helpful to people that are getting started with editing their own images.
I personally use Photoshop as part of my workflow but that would be overkill for most people – especially if they just wanted to resize an image for their website!
Your instructions are concise and I love your use of screenshots to make it clear what you’re talking about.
